The Hidden Crisis: A Generation at Risk
Since 2022, our summer camps have welcomed thousands of Russian-speaking immigrant children annually. What we discovered broke our hearts:
These children arrive as blank slates:
Zero knowledge of Jewish traditions or values
No connection to Israeli culture or history
Parents who can't teach what they never learned
Families rebuilding from trauma, war, and displacement
The devastating pattern
Children flourish during our 2-week camps, then regress completely during the school year without support.

Social isolation in new communities
Children forced into adult roles
(translating, navigating bureaucracy)
Parents working multiple jobs, emotionally unavailable
Language and cultural barriers that feel insurmountable
Families struggling just to survive, let alone celebrate

Ahead of his bar mitzva David decided to make and sell mishlochei manot in our community to raise money for a twin bar mitzva. It was such a meaningful activity for him, which taught him all about responsibility and caring for others in a way that no lesson could. Between his sales, family donations, and our employers’ matching funds we were able to sponsor a cohort of bar mitzva kids in Israel.
